Frequently Asked Questions

  1. You say that ElDorado National buses hold their value better than other buses. Why is that?
The value is largely attributable to our unique steel reinforced composite body construction. Our bus body does not rust or corrode and has a natural ability to dissipate road shock. In addition, the high gloss gel-coat exterior of the body panels allows the vehicle to look newer longer and all door frames are stainless steel powder coated. These are the primary factors that allow the product to retain its structural integrity, aesthetic appeal and related resale value. So, when you invest in an ElDorado National bus, you can rest easy. You will get the highest possible return on your investment.
  2. What is gel coating and why does it make my bus last longer/work better than a traditional steel body?
Gel-coating is a shiny hard finish with a standard white pigment impregnated in it. Our standard gel-coated body panels have a higher resistance to bumps and dings than painted metal skin. In addition, the composite material is not subject to oxidation, electrolysis (chemical reaction between two dissimilar materials), rust or corrosion. Most often it also is easier and less costly to repair. So, when other buses are falling apart, your ElDorado National bus will look like new!
  3. In some cases, there seems to be a price differential for vehicles that appear to be similar. Why is that?
There is an old saying “if it appears too good to be true, it probably is”. The best way to make a real “apples to apples” comparison is to see, touch and drive the vehicles in person. Commercial buses are also just vehicles. Like a new car or truck, the longer they sit on the dealer’s lot, the more motivated the dealer is to sell it. However, make certain you understand why the vehicle has been a slow mover. Also, if the vehicle is located at a dealer several hundred miles away, they generally know they’re not going to have the additional costs of supporting it after the sale; thus they can lower the selling price. No matter what you’re told, the best support you’re going to get is when buying locally; period, and there is a cost associated with it.
  4. Do you rent buses?
ElDorado National does not rent out buses. Simply contact us at sales@enconline.com or 800-850-1287 for the representative near you or use the “Find a Dealer” locator on this website.
  5. Tell us about your ISO certification and other quality initiatives.

ElDorado National facilities are ISO 9001 (2000 Standard) Certified for the design and manufacture of commercial buses and vans.

We are proud of our history of ISO and our entire Quality program. We understand the importance in “attention to detail” and committed to building quality products. We currently have 26 products that have undergone testing at the Federal Transit Administration Altoona Bus Testing Center. It should be noted that many of these life cycle tests performed on ElDorado National products were done for a longer period of time than many of our competitors. Other things setting us apart from the competition are an onsite exact replica Altoona mini-test track and have also completed side and rear crash testing as well as providing superior undercarriage corrosion protection on all vehicles. We are continually working to provide superior products for your transportation needs.

  6. Why should I buy an ElDorado National bus rather than some other?
When you purchase any of our models from an authorized ElDorado National dealer, you are also getting three decades of organizational experience and expertise. Our buses have the lowest lifetime cost and highest residual value. So, when you invest in an ElDorado National bus, you know you will be on schedule and on budget mile after mile. If and when you need us, ElDorado National has the financial ability to meet obligations through the warranty period, and for the remaining life of the bus, including your technical and aftermarket parts support requirements. We feel this extra piece of mind is important when you are making a significant investment. There’s nothing like having a friend in the business!
  7. I need an uncommon floor plan. Can you help me?
One size doesn’t fit all, so you may have some special requirements. That’s where we excel – finding creative solutions to your individual needs. Whether you need an uncommon floor plan or some special equipment, we will work with you to outfit your bus just the way you need it.
  8. I need lots of storage. What are my options?
Many! Custom built for you…. one or a combination to suit your specific needs: overhead storage bins, dedicated rear storage in the rear of the bus, under floor/exterior skirt mounted or interior luggage racks. We recommend discussing your needs with your local authorized ElDorado National dealer who can suggest the perfect option. Simply contact us at sales@enconline.com or 800-850-1287 for the representative near you or use the “Find a Dealer” locator on this website.
  9. Do you have any good used buses for around 20 to 30K?
ElDorado National does not sell used buses at the factory. Simply contact us at sales@enconline.com or 800-850-1287 for the representative near you or use the “Find a Dealer” locator on this website.
  10. What kind of paint schemes do you have?
We are pleased to offer many choices of common paint schemes as well offer custom painting and graphics done at the factory. We can also custom color matching; all we need is a color sample.
  11. Will we need any type of special training or licensing to operate a commercial bus?
In terms of licensing, depending on your state the vehicle may need to be registered differently than a personal vehicle. Your state motor vehicle department can advise you on this matter. If the vehicle is over 16 passengers (including driver) the operator will need to have a commercial driver’s license (CDL). These are not that difficult to obtain with some additional training which is also available through the motor vehicle department. A good point to consider regarding van cutaway buses; the operator compartment is a very typical automotive environment, much like a pickup truck or a cargo van. Thus most people are immediately comfortable in this setting. The most important thing to remember is you’re wider, taller and longer than a typical vehicle which must always be taken into account. Some “reminder” decals in the operator compartment are always a good idea.
  12. Where can I go to test drive a vehicle?
Aside from the Yellow Pages probably the best way to find your closest, authorized, commercial bus dealer is on the internet. Upon contacting them they will arrange for a test drive. In most cases they’re more than happy to bring the vehicle to your location so others or committees can view and evaluate the vehicle. NOTE: this is one of the reasons it is absolutely imperative to purchase the vehicle locally versus over the internet or a long distance away. Not only can a more effective evaluation be done, but if it results in a purchase, a local dealer who is authorized to sell in your state is obliged to provide all training, after sale support, parts and service. Remember; it is a piece of equipment that is carrying your most valuable cargo; your passengers!
  13. How do I know which size, features and options are right for my application?
It’s important first to talk with your group and get a general consensus of how you plan to use the vehicle. If it is for over-the-road out-reach type functions this would require certain different functional features than if it’s used for parking or community shuttling. It is also possible to find a happy medium that can serve multiple purposes to an acceptable level. Once again, a local, experienced, authorized dealer can take your general input and develop it into a specification and configuration that meets your overall needs best.
  14. The fact is, they are all pretty much built on the same types of chassis. Why or how is one body manufacturer better than another?

At the end of the day, you must make your own assessment based on your specific expectations and needs; just as with any purchase. However a good general check list would include:

      local sales and service support
    • years in business, product performance history
    • applicable standards compliance (FMVSS)
    • amount and level of testing (both required and non-required)
    • financial strength
    • facilities
    • general achievements (ISO registration, lean manufacturing, etc.)

  15. Who is Thor Industries?
ElDorado National is a subsidiary of Thor Industries, Inc., a New York Stock Exchange listed company (THO). Thor is the largest builder of small and mid-sized buses in North America and the largest manufacturer of recreation vehicles. Thor has achieved an outstanding performance in it’s 30-year history.
